Excerpt

I took a step back and raced forward, shoving my shoulder against the bedroom door. The wood easily splintered from the hinges as the lock gave way. The door swung open.

On the other side was Catherine, backed into a corner, holding a small nightstand lamp aloft as a makeshift weapon. Her beautiful hair was down and lying in waves over her shoulders; with her glasses placed neatly on the nightstand, I had an unobstructed view of the alarm in her gorgeous emerald eyes.

“Stay back!”

I lifted my arm and let one side of the handcuffs tumble out. “Now why would I do that.”

Her beautiful eyes widened.

This was going to be fun.

Catherine chucked the lamp at my head and tried to run past me. I deflected the lamp with my right forearm, and snatched her around the waist with my left. “Not so fast, little one.”

I grabbed her by the chin. “Miss me?”

Review

This is the first book in the Stalked by a Monster series and I must say that it was a very captivating read. This is my first book by Zoe Blake and it surely won’t be the last. The first chapter of the book hooked me in and I couldn’t put this one down. I finished this book in one sitting, however, I will note the book seemed a bit short for me. It is less than 100 pages so a little more on the novella side instead of a full length novel. Because of this, I will admit that I wanted more to the story as the it really only spans over the course of 4 days.

The character development was great as I truly believed that Jekyll and Hyde were two completely different characters, although they were the same entity. The role of Catherine reminded me of the typical science geek with a librarian twist. I definitely could not blame the girl for wanting Hyde for all his devilish ways. The spice of this book was tamale hot from the very first page and it did not relent. The author’s words were very descriptive making it easier for readers to fully envision the story unfold before their eyes. Overall I really enjoyed the story and will continue to read the rest of the series. Highly recommended.
